First of all i have to say that I love allllllllll Carter scenes ( Of course I do) I do not have a particular scene.. well.. oh yeah i have one.. I really like the episode in "Carter est amoureux" when Carter runs back to Kem to tell that he loves her etc. Which woman could resist in such a situation ? *sigh* I also like all the episodes with Abby on his side. It was a bit to dramatic sometimes , but also funny. =)

I feel in desperate need of news ... of anything with Noah... So, what's left to do in that case? Watch ER.. And I'm actually even excited by the small fact that "what we do" and "old friends" are going to air on french tv this weekend. I'm not fan of french voices, but at least that feels like 'something new' . And the promo on french tv has Carter saying "Tu" to Peter when they first meet in What we do ("Qu'est-ce que tu fais là ?") and as far as I can remember, Carter always said "vous" to Benton... I guess the people making the translations are not paying so much attention to what they did so far, and are making mistakes with the "vous" and "tu" (like having Carter saying "vous" to everybody in the ER in "the beginning of the end", even to Jerry, and that felt really awkward and not as it used to be!). But now the "tu" to Benton feels really appropriate and special and I love it ;D ! Anyway... about Noah's performances on ER, since I just rewatched "Old times", I hadn't noticed so much so far how good he was in the beginning of the episode. I had kept in mind the post-op scene, and forgotten a bit about the rest, but his first scene made me really go 'wow...': the waking up when the breakfast cart is brought, looking confused and really like he just woke up, and how he follows with his eyes the brisk doctor when he leaves and tries to smile at the nurse, and then with the surgeon, asking "is someone gonna tell me what's going on?"... it's really perfect ;D. Even if it's not big drama and jumping to the eyes as "THE performance", I find it really quite something. That really goes with what Crichton said about Noah: he is so good you don't even see how good he is... OT: What is it with Rice Krispies? I can't imagine Carter eating Rice Krispies... Is it even good for a renal failure diet? This stuff is full of sodium and potassium... ETA: okay, I'm getting obsessed with this episode right now. I remember having said at the time it was aired that I felt it awkward that Carter was looking too cool about the surgery, that aside from the post-op scene, Noah wasn't given enough 'drama' to play with and it was all taken a bit not seriously enough... (like his whining in the pre-op scene...) But in the details, Carter has signs of looking nervous actually, particularly in the elevator: He is 'shaking' a bit when Benton tells him he'll stick around, and around 0:19-0:20, you can see he is playing nervously with his fingers. It's all in the little details that Noah puts .

Even if it's not intentional on the translators' part, it's still pretty awesome. It speaks very loudly of how far they've come. And it's much more subtle and believable than, say, Benton referring to Carter as "John" (which I'm still having trouble swallowing, even though I understand and love the thought behind it...) I don't see him as particularly calm at any point in this episode. The "whining" about the food and the drink is just a distraction technique, because the waiting must be so nervewrecking... I think, as you said, there are plenty of signs to show that he's nervous. When he's talking to Benton about his parents he's playing nervously with his blanket, it's all there. I actually really like that they kept him "together", considering he doesn't really have anyone to open up to- nobody's really willing to listen to him, and Benton is, well, Benton... ETA: Claire, I must have watched that elevator scene 50 times and I never noticed Carter's fingers. What an eye for detail!

I will be reiterating so much of everyone's choices but I've been revisiting previous seasons of ER and I have the say that "May Day" is a tour de force from Noah. i think that's the episode that made me realize what an incredible actor he was.
the last scene in BSMH, he didn't even speak. that scene will always be chilling, years later.
the entire episode of My Brother's Keeper, particularly the moment he sees Chase being worked on.
last scene with Chase in A Bloody Mess...heartbreaking.
Post Mortem, entire episode.
Such Sweet Sorrow, bathroom scene.
Midnight, with his dad.
to break my pattern of heartbreaking angst performances (because he's also terrific when he's nuanced):
-Greatest of Gifts: friendship with Deb -last scene with Benton I'll Be Home for Christmas
The episode Carter's Choice is filled with great Noah scenes.
Any scene from Damaged.
Wow, I feel like I'm missing a few still.

Noah is a GREAT actor, we know that! He's impressive in many ways... I will not mention what has already been written because I agree with you, but I insist on the season 6 after the Sobriki's attack. Noah was just ... Extraordinary! I can watch these episodes many times, I still have that ball in the stomach I just want to share a moment that I love and who could make me forget a bad day ... I don't know about you but I LOVE his laugh! In season 2, episode True lies, Benton is invited to dinner by Vucelich, Carter ask with who Benton goes, he meets with his sister. And there, Carter mocks him and walks away laughing!! Oh if I could find the extract .. I hope not to be irrelevant, it's not really a performance
