I agree that the post-op scene was tremendous! I actually liked that Doug/Carol didn't know about Carter. And it didn't strike me as odd that Sam/Neela didn't mention him. Actually it was more Doug asking if so and so were still there... And Carter was never important. Not a friend, not a chief.. just another med student/resident as he must have seen hundreds of. I tried to remember any important Carter/Ross interaction, just a plot where they may have treated the same patient, or a meaningful discussion, I really can't seem to remember any! I really liked it that Carter was just "some doctor" in the end. And getting slowly away from my first negative feelings about the episode (well, mainly just big disappointment that it wasn't more Carter/Benton and mad at the writers for the scar continuity problem... ), I think the first scenes with Carter were awesome, how he doesn't manage to talk to the doctor or surgeon, that they are so brisk, so not reachable, so not listening to him. It's really being on the other side for him now... Even the nurse he tried to smile at. His face when seeing she didn't react at all was priceless ;D. That was awesome! Just how he said "Kem".. his voice then. It makes the full episode worth it. I really don't know how Noah does that... Really there was so much in just the way he said "Kem". Just from that you can tell he is still madly in love with her. And his face.. wow. I agree with you, it's really like he didn't want to worry her until now, and now that he has good news he shows this immense relief that he is now allowed to reach to her.

You may be right about Doug. Carter had a lot more interraction with Carol in the early days, than with Doug, but I still think they kind of did it on purpose to get the funny line at the end about "some doctor" I thought Benton during the op was amazing . So like Benton. It kind of diffused the tension a bit as well as showing how beneath his brusque business like exterior he really cares about Carter. Yes Carter's voice saying "Kem" and his face in pain. Noah is such a "physical" actor. You aren't just watching his pain/disappointment/surprise/relief you can feel it. It's so real. He has such a rare gift.

ARGH. my computer is being uncooperative. I'm DYING to see the episode, but it's taking forever to download. And I might just have to see the scenes that Claire posted. I was going to fast forward through all the non-Carter scenes in the episode, anyway, so it wouldn't be that much different.
I'm getting a feeling there's not going to be much Carter at all. Trying to prepare myself for a disappointment, but it's not working because OMG CARTER AND BENTON! Oh well, I'll take when I can get. I just hope there's something new other than the three leaked scenes. And I can't wait to see what you're all talking about. Ugh I hate having to wait. *chews nails*

Ugh, I'm just incredibly impatient. So I'm watching old ER episodes to pass the time. Rewatching the Africa ones now, and I realize I really hated them when they first aired, and now I can't really remember why. They're beautiful and tragic and well acted (I know it's OT, but Goran Visnjic is amazing in them and in one of the eps- Kisangani, I think it was, when Kovac is talking to Carter about what war really means for the people involved... still very relevant.) I guess I was too young to understand them at the time. (or maybe it's just that I need a dose of Noah any way I can get it.) Sorry, that had nothing at all to do with this episode. *is going to watch some good old season 1 ER*

Kisangani and Lost are two of my favourite episodes. And I think the age factor can change your taste and you perception of everything. You know, for instance I like Noah more now than I was twenty ;D We're additcts! That's the problem! We tried to stay sober, but we can't! And I'm trying to resist to Claire's clips but my computer doesn't want to coperate

I just loved Kisangani and The Lost!!! at the time I thought it was by far the best episodes of ER ever! Now I may have calmed down about them but they remain in my top 10! I can put them down if you want ;D! if that can help... And I totally feel like an addict! it's not even funny.. I have to work and I'm here checking boards and watching and rewatching Carter's scene. I'll regret it soon... ETA: Yeah! I read something about Ellen! I want to see that.. how she mentioned it. And in the clip that was out before the episode aired of Carter meeting Benton, they didn't have the sound. Now in the episode, it was with Ellen's voice in the background, making it even easier to spot! That wasn't coincidental at all ;D. Actually, I even thought her voice was too loud, it was distracting...

Oooh and just like magic, it's done! I'm going to watch it now, and comment as I go just to make sure I don't miss anything. * Carter's doctor- not the surgeon, the one in the very beginning who was about to discharge him- the actor who plays him was on The Office for a while. That's so cool. I love it when two fandoms merge. I loved the scene where none of the doctors actually pay any attention to Carter's attempts to communicate and are discussing things "over his head". The nonresponsive nurse actually made me smile. it felt like season1 Carter for a while there. So incredibly frustrating and exactly what happens most of the time IRL. I'm liking the Doug and Carol scenes much more than I thought I would. For the record, I LOVE those two characters and I wish they dedicated the entire episode to them and to Carter (obviously they can't do that, but a girl can wish). The scene where Doug catches up with Neela and Sam was brilliant. None of his old friends is there, and again it's like the writers are speaking for the actors, not the characters. I'm surprised he didn't ask about Mark: are we supposed to assume he knows about Mark's death? He WAS his best friend, after all. I love how they played the whole transplant thing. Brilliant way of bringing back Clooney and Margulies while keeping it believable. Neela and Sam didn't annoy me in this one for a change. Everything about the Carter and Benton scenes makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Beautiful writing, beautiful acting. Benton coming in and yelling for Carter- what a blast from the past! I LOVE that they're keeping it light with the teasing about the food. "Mmm... Peanut butter." might just be my favorite quote for a while now. ;D "YOU married a sister?" never fails to make me laugh. I love how Carter knows Benton is going to laugh at him and he's gesturing at him to go ahead, laugh. it's just great to see the two of them finally comfortable with each other. Yay for Benton and his little rulebook! Once again he manages to save Carter, and what do you know, he does it with style. LOVE IT. Also? Benton calling Carter "John" is weird. I don't think I could get used to that. They should stick to "Carter". And the entire post-op scene was brilliant. Everyone's said that before, so I won't gush about how wonderful Noah is, but god help me, I cried like a little baby. I love how he's holding back tears, you can see his face shaking and unsteady, and talking to Kem... what do you think, am I overusing the word brilliant? "Some doctor". Huh. I don't think it was unbelievable that Doug and Carol wouldn't know who the kidney was going to. They simply had no reason to pay any attention to that, they were too busy getting the organs to go anywhere. So yeah, I didn't mind that whole thing. Bottom line? I enjoyed this episode a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. For once it pays to be pessimistic. ;D

Yes, that was really well played. That's the great thing with having 'our' ER docs becoming patients from time to time: the audience too get on the patient's side and you're remembered how uncomfortable doctors can make you feel sometimes. That reminded me of Mark arriving in the OR for his brain surgery, freaking out at hearing the sound of an electrical saw or something, asking people if they hadn't planned to give him something to relax... I would actually have minded a lot if that last scene of Doug and Carol had turned out to be "Oh my gosh Doug!!! you'll never believe what I've just been told!!! " . I think "some doctor" was perfect. Subtle, surreal, I don't think they could have done better. ;D That's where I should learn my lesson. Last week I read tons of comments before being able to watch, and they hardly mentioned Carter's scenes, so I started watching with the impression he would hardly be in the episode. And today I read tons of comments that were pointing to new information about Carter, so I got the impression there'd be many scenes with him and many explaining done! And it didn't live up the hype ... So what do I learn from that? Don't read comments before watching. I bet you in three weeks for the finale I won't manage to remember that... Someone on LJ pointed out that it was awkward that Carter told Kem on the phone "I have some very good news", instead of something that would seem to make more sense like "I have something very important to tell you". And that made me think that the post-op scene, the way he says "Kem" with -I thought- a bucket of love and relief in his voice, really quite hinted to the fact that he ran away from her to not worry her. And now that he'll be fine, he's gonna let her in again.

Oh, my God! I suppose they didn't even try to hide it!!! ;D I really think they don't bother at all with that on ER. It's to see more than once in the episode. I imagine if they minded, it'd be easy to cover with make-up... I checked the file in HD, trying to pause it on that shot, I still can't make out what he has under the O. It's better to see on the Librarian actually. And it looks to me as though it could be hebrew or sanskrit... Sorry for the off-topic...
