I feel like the writers really didn't know where to take Carter anymore. They had an easier time showing him growing up from a boy to a man, but once he had reached real adulthood, it's like they didn't know what man he was supposed to be . WOW, I love this point. Yes, Carter's story line felt more alive?sufficient?(I can't find the right word, sorry guys ) when he was a boy. But the grown-up part on the other hand feels a little empty or confusing or totally driving you crazy(Seriously, how much bad luck can a man get in his life?) ... After Season6 every Carter's fan is dying to know what next. And what actually DID the show give us during season7~11and15? OMG it's 9 years. What a waste. Especially in season 9, Carter was 100% good-looking, all grown-up, ready to go. I was so excited at the 1st episode knowing it would be a Carter centered era after Greene left. But when the Japanese nun held his face and said "too much sadness" at the end of that season I know we're all screwed... That season should have been much better. And so should season10~15. Oh, and season 11, WTH? (Sorry, negative post again ) I started fast forward from season 11, that's something. Scary. Carter was so exhausted during that season. Maybe the only bright part of season11 is the tenure cake and "Paris le matin"...gratefully, we had a good ending at that season's finale but how about the finale finale this year? Of course, we are not going to say uncle because we are a bunch of hardy fans, we can take care of the subtle ending by using our imagination. But still, waste is a waste. Guess we can only re-watch the Season1~8 as often as we can to get the most of the show...

Exactly, it was always "what's next?" and it never came! Writers were hinting at little things, starting to scratch the surface of issues Carter could face, but never really went deep. In S8-9, there was "how will he deal with Gamma's money? what will he do with the Carter's fortune..." and it was sort of resolved in the end, but that took an eternity to get there! We knew where it was going for long (starting of building the Carter's center) but it was so slow that the interest was gone in the end. It wasn't really exciting anymore to see him actually open the center . Then they made him a potential father, and that was exciting! I bet we all wanted to see Carter holding his baby and see him growing up, and the writers killed that possibility! Why?? *VERY ANGRY* WHY? Then we could see him become the more selfless man one can imagine, accepting to risk his life in dangerous countries, giving up on all comfort, to help people that no one really cares about. Very exciting too! And what happens? he has to give up on that for health reasons. It wasn't one waste. It was many... If you want to look at it with depressed eyes, in the end, he is a guy in charge of a center that will maybe run out of money fast, with a chronic health problem, and with no woman in his life. But I don't want to get depressed!!! so I decide: he is a healthy guy now, in charge of a center who will benefit the ones that no one really cares about in Chicago, he will be with a wonderful woman soon, can be whoever... build a family, and he is THE doctor!!! ;D ETA: I just checked youtube a bit and the meeting between Carter and Elaine is there... Really full of sexual tension right from when they meet . I guess the deleted scene was supposed to be right after the last scene there...

But if Carter got second chance he would do the same thing if we look back. He still want to be a doctor, stick around County for years and check that scary room to find Lucy, go back to be a doctor again,(he may give up the drug part but when he faced that kind of depress and anger and guilty I guess he would do the same thing.) and when Luka called he still would go to Africa, when he saw Kem he would fall in love with her again, and open the Carter Center after his baby died. The only thing he missed is the good luck, no, normal luck. And that's the writers' problem, not his. It's weird that Carter seems to be separated from the show itself to his fans. Maybe because his character is too amazing to settle in a normal story line. Yes, I guess so from the dress:)

Ok, now, that clip is pretty disturbing the way she talks about "what a hand can do..." I thought she was going to jump him right there in the X-Ray room. I mean, I can't blame the woman, he's hot, but have some self control... scary. But his smile right at the end- when she says she doesn't really want a drink... OMG mischevious little smile. I love those. *rolls eyes* yeah right.

Wasn't Orman "responsible" for carby era too? Well, carby storyline in season 9 killed Carter's chance to be "the center of the ensemble, like Edwards was" so I think I agree with Noah.

Ok, now, that clip is pretty disturbing the way she talks about "what a hand can do..." When you think it was american TV, it is amazing indeed . That line with the hand is so subtle that the double meaning can knock you out! But at that point, we didn't know it would get that heated... (and we didn't see it all actually... deleted scene not included). A bucket of cold water for her? ... Oh yeah!!! ;D Thank you Elaine for bringing that face on him!! I think he was, so I didn't hold that guy very high on my scale of ER writers, but I went to check Wiki for him, and the list of ER episodes he wrote quite surprised me actually (if Wiki is accurate...). He gave us "All in the Family" after all... and other significant episodes for Carter, like "Surrender", and "The Crossing" (which was quite a big storyline for Carter...) and "Beyond Repair", but it's true that for that one, he screwed it and he should have put Abby way behind Carter (and not as the queen of the episode as she is... ).

So obviously not ALL his stuff is bad... I'm sure he wasn't the only one responsible for the poorly written Carter storylines in seasons 7+... And I think AiTF makes up for almost anything. The Crossing is also a great one... He's good, he just has a problem with giving Abby TOO MUCH screentime. Even in AiTF she had way too much screentime. And don't even get me started on Beyond Repair. Talk about a missed opportunity.

I'm not quite sure where to post this, so I'll post it here. I was taking the bus home today and the radio was playing "Old and Wise" by Alan Parson's Project. I couldn't get the lyrics out of my head, and so when I came home I decided to make a Carter/Benton music video. It took me almost two hours, because I had to hunt around youtube for clips (my DVDs are at my other apartment) and by the end it's like 2 a.m and I just got really tired and so the editing is kinda bad. But I kind of like it, on the whole. Comments and criticism most welcome... but it's my first actual fanvid EVER, so be nice.

Wow! Well done. I love that song and you got all the best Carter/Benton scenes in. I thought the end was the best bit and not at all rushed. ;D Great work

Wow wow wow wow wow!!! ;D
I just had a bit of time to watch, and I loved it!!! Great music, great choice of scenes fitting with the music. That can compete with spaceyume's! (and that's the highest compliment I can imagine for a fanvid... ) ;D Made me teary eyes...
Thank you so much for doing that!
Ah.. I so love these two ;D. Yeah, they became older and wiser together, really learning from each other...

Yay! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you guys like it. ;D I'll probably never make another one of those again (so much trouble... *wipes imaginary sweat off brow*) but it was a lot of fun. I'm glad I didn't give up halfway through like I normally do with any idea I get...
(and it really hit me that my obsession with ER has reached a scary level when I heared that song on the radio and my mind just immediately went to Carter. That song could always make me cry, but now it's almost too easy.)

Wow! I'm so excited to see a fan vid from you, Anna! - a real fan with deep thoughts for the characters and storylines- But d**nit:( I couldn't watch it right now because it's work time and my company got really serious about NO-YOUTUBE-AT-WORK principle lately. Were I caught again, I'll be fired......
Although this post is meaningless, I just want to you to know how much I'm looking forward to your fan vid. I will watch it ASAP and leave a serious comment:D
