You know, I have this theory that there are many different levels of obsession that we progress slowly through. Say, we start from watching occasional episodes and learning the characters' names, then next stage is knowing the storylines, then next stage is signing up to forums and/or reading fanfiction, next stage is WRITING fanfiction, and then there comes the point where you're a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and know the character better than the writers. Which is where most of us are, I think. And it's awesome. Now, keeping a log of Carter's clothes... you might have just discovered a whole new level of fandom--- I love it! ;D
It's been done before, you know. I'm a big fan of The Office and I know there is (or used to be) a site that documents the outfit of John Krasinski (who plays Jim) in every single episode. It categorizes by shirt type, tie... has pictures of every single shirt he ever wore on the show. So if you wanted to know, say, in what episode he was wearing a light blue shirt, that would be the place to look. Obviously it's only 5 seasons, so with ER it might be a bit problematic... Anyway, let's not get to that level of insanity just yet. Me, I'm perfectly fine with rewatching old episodes a few more times just to prefect my knowledge on ER trivia. ;D

;D! Glad you like it! Going farther down insanity fandom lane, and seeing the beautiful pic that Raffy posted of Carter and Kem elsewhere, I just had the idea of keeping a log of Carter's haircut, and facial hair (not only simply beard or no beard, oh no! but clean shaved, stubble, full beard, goatee... ). It's bad, isn't it?Talking about his hairstyle, and since I'm rewatching season 1, I remember reading somewhere that Noah found his haircut in "Day one" making him look like "a circumcised pen!s". I can't watch the first few episodes of season1 where he has that haircut without thinking of that! and it's very highly disturbing!!! Noah, why oh why did you say that?!! I couldn't find back the exact quote, but I think he was saying that he wasn't happy that they used a shot of him with that haircut in the opening credits for at least one season, while he had it just for a bit...

I remember that! They gave him this haircut that he really hated, and he got his own hairdresser to fix it after a while, but the damage was done... Poor guy. And here I was thinking that I'm crazy for being able to tell by Noah's haircut which season of ER we're on. Thank GOD for this board! Well, with the exception of The Beard That Covers Half His Face, he's almost always clean shaven, so that should be easy. And dear god, did we ever see him with a goatee?!

Sort of.. just lower part, in the first episode of season 7, in rehab. He shaves it off on the plane back to Chicago. Thank God! As horrible as it looked, I thought it was a nice way to show that Carter didn't accept yet being a drug addict and grew that goatee in a way to show it wasn't him in rehab... The look on his face, and shaking his head, while looking at himself in the mirror of the lavatory in the plane is really like "who's that guy?".

Oh, right! I totally repressed that. That's very true. I never thought about it... it just seemed like something he'd do to try and change how he sees himself, you know. (also, That scene on the plane when he's reaching into his bag (apparently for the razor)... I love how they shot that. The tired look in the mirror, and then reaching into his bag, and you're like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You BETTER not be taking out any drugs, now...) I think growing facial hair is Carter's way of dealing with an identity crisis. Season 5- Anna left and broke his heart, he grows facial hair. Season 7- goes to rehab, grows facial hair. Season 9- his grandmother dies, he doesn't know what he wants anymore, goes to Africa, identity crisis, grows a beard. See a trend? No wonder I hate The Beard so much!

Oh, right! I totally repressed that. Oh! I wonder why... Indeed! I never thought about it, but there is definitely a pattern here... (aside from the beard happening after an ER hiatus for Noah, who grew the beard over his vacations time). I don't know if the writers thought about it. That's really amazing to have a character developing on a so long time span, so that trends like that can be shown. And in season 15, he could have come back with a beard. Life threw at him something bad enough that it could have required a beard. But now he is strong enough. He doesn't need it anymore! ;D

Something tells me they didn't. This is just us over-analyzing something that the writers probably put two seconds of thought into (they were probably too busy writing the Stamos scenes).
I don't know why, but this made me laugh so hard. Yeah. something bad enough that it requires a beard... Heh.
(too many hours of doing physics have melted my brain. I am not very coherent at the moment...)

Made me laugh too now! ;D My brain must have melted too (too much work... ) cause I didn't realize at all the surreal ridiculousness of what I was writing... Now I'll wonder what awful things happened to guys I meet who are growing beards .

I'm not sure where to put this, and I don't think it was posted already . A little 'old' article about "Be still my heart" in the LA Times, with interviews of Noah, Laura Innes, Kellie Martin and David Krumholtz... (not enough interview of Noah I must say , of course... ): www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-ca-er-stabbing29-2009mar29,0,3539088.story Poor David Krumholtz ... He was awesome in the part, but I guess it's hard to get away from such a role (even if it was a part that didn't last long). It's quite amazing (in a not good way, almost frightening) that Noah got cards and sympathy because Carter got stabbed, and David Krumholtz got a hard time on the streets because he played Sobriki. Is it so hard to separate an actor from the character he plays? And I like what Laura Innes says about not wanting to see the knife. I knew she directed the episode, but I was wondering how much of the scene was her idea or how much was scripted and not let to her decision... She did an amazing job on that episode. ETA: Oh my God!!! This automatic editor against bad language is amazing!!! It just changed Hitchc0ck to Hitchthingy... Jeeeee.

I was rewatching season1 and happened to find that episode. It was 1x21 " House of Cards " I finally got to watch that episode in my rewatching of season 1. It's a really nice episode, the first where Carter mentions his brother and why he got into medicine. And about that, he says: When I saw how the doctors treated him, and how they treated me, I knew this was what i wanted to do. which made me wonder: what does he mean with "how they treated me" ? Just as the brother of a patient, explaining things to him, or as a patient too?, meaning Carter maybe donated bone marrow to his brother? I don't think this was ever addressed. The question must have been at stake at a point of his brother's leukemia of course. Was Carter not compatible or did he donate but it didn't work? This is something they could have answered at a point (for instance when Anna donated bone marrow and Carter was the one doing the procedure...). I don't remember that they did... It's sad really about what's going on in my head ... Here I am wondering about the history of a fictional character, about something that was never addressed and that the writers maybe never considered, and yet it feels like there must be an answer somewhere... as though the character was real, if you see what I mean . There are a lot of questions like that that will never be answered... and I can't accept it just like that, as a fictional character for whom you should just take the parts of his history that were shown. But actually, it shows how greatly the character was played and written over many years. Carter really became 'real'. Though ER is over, Carter still exists somewhere... ;D Random note about "House of cards": Who was stupid enough to have the idea of having Carter where scrubs inside his pants and with suspenders over them? This is horrendous!! and very distracting in all the scenes where he is wearing that! I had totally repressed that outfit... And other random note : I find Carter and Susan really 'close' around that episode, watching at each other in a bit 'funny' way, which made me wonder if it was around that time that Noah and Sherry were dating...
