... and how about the fact that Carter's suicidal cross-dressing patient from season one- you know, the one who jumped- is played by Vondie Curtis-Hall, who will later come back to play Roger? I was watching the episode not too long ago and at some point I was like, "wait, is that ROGER?! WTF?!" I guess America's running out of actors.

I wish I could make clips out of the DVDs... I didn't find a free way on my Mac yet. Here's a free software you might want to try. www.squared5.com/I've used it for a long time on my mac. It worked perfectly. (Really fast for DVD clip )

I'm so sorry, Raffy, that's the only one I know on mac. (with windows, you can use VirtualDub though) I'll keep an eye on this kind of software and notice you if I find another one.

I've been using this for long for avi files, but I can't manage to open DVD files with that on my Mac. I don't know what's the problem for me... Now I started to think what's wrong with my mac. Maybe I added some plug-in into it and I don't know which one it is...

I saw something that I have a mpeg2 plugin missing to read DVD with MPEG Streamclip, and it doesn't seem to be for free . I'll keep on checking for other solutions...

I'm rewatching season1 in order, and I'm really amazed re-discovering how good this show was! I can totally see why it was on the cover of Newsweek after only 6 episodes and being so acclaimed! The Pilot is not so 'great' in my eyes, but it seems to get better and better after each new episode... Talking about that, "ER Confidential" really shocked me upon re-watching... It was so daring at the time I imagine! The scene where the transvestite jumps is quite hard to watch. I realized I was holding my breath and putting my hand to my mouth... It comes really surprising in the middle of Carter trying to talk more, and Carter's screaming "No!!!" makes the scene really horrifying. They really knew how to tell a story back in those days! And in a really new way at the time I imagine, with very daring cuts. It cuts from Carter checking what we imagine is the body on the ground, to Thanksgiving party in the ER. And afterwards Carter seems completely paralyzed, hardly reacting to Benton talking to him, but Benton is doing the right thing and pushing Carter to come to Thanksgiving dinner . One of the first signs of the growing caring feelings between them... I had really a reaction of "wow" with this episode. And "Blizzard" is so amazing too! The first scene, Jerry singing in the snow, how the corridors of the ER are shot in a wobbling way, until you discover it's because it's seen through the eyes of skating nurse Wendy... Carter and his cast, and at a point he comes across Wendy and takes a quick look at his cast, really like he's thinking "she'll need one of those soon!" ... The contrast between the first part of the show and the second part with the multiple traumas... Bob.. and Patrick!!! I had forgotten about Patrick and his helmet! I loved the guy! This is really a great episode... I'm really glad to discover that I had forgotten so much, so that it feels really new, and that I'm still thrilled to rewatch and to find it so great ;D.

The first seasons are, in fact, brilliant. We got so used to the ER style that it's easy to forget how different it was, back in 1994, how shocking and fresh. But even now with so many medical dramas around, the first seasons are still a thrill to watch. ER is one of those immortal shows that will never become less relevant. I can see myself rewatching episodes 3, 5 and 10 years from now and still discovering something new every time. Thank god I only have season 2 and 3 on DVD, otherwise I wouldn't leave the room... I downloaded that episode specifically because it's probably the only season 1 episode I remember, and man, it was horrifying. We see Carter make a deadly mistake, but he's human- he's only 22, and he's digusted, and it may not be perfect but nobody's perfect. But when you watch it, you never think it's going anywhere. and when it leads to the guy jumping... it's just heartbreaking to watch. And the scene with Benton at the end is all kinds of amazing.

Yeah... He learnt over the years. Carter was a compassionate character from the start, but compassionate with people towards whom it's easy to be, not always for people with 'different lifestyles'. With what he saw in the ER and what he went through himself, he became an even more compassionate person I think . I saw that you uploaded those scenes on YouTube. Thank you Anna ;D!!! (that made me notice that the rooftop scene is shot in Downtown LA, not Chicago...) Looks like we all have the same kind of activity in our free time ... Thanks for finding the episode! I have this crazy idea in mind, while rewatching episodes, to count and write down how long we see Carter in each episode (to know how many minutes of him we got all in all in 15 seasons... ), write down what are his storylines in each episode, what he is wearing... a sort of episodes guide just for Carter. But right now I'm worried doing that will kill my fun about re-watching . Maybe one day...
