Nothing to do with Noah, but Rod Holcomb won an Emmy for outstanding director of a drama series for "And In the End", which I think is kind of cool.

I think he really deserves it! And if you think he directed the pilot it's really a cool thing ;D And he was already cool in my book for this...

That picture was on the back of my mind when I read the winners list. I was very disappointed with the winners in the Emmys this year. I often am. But this one is well deserved. Other than the fact that it's a very nice symbolic win- to win an Emmy for the finale of such a landmark series, having also directed the very first episode--- I have a lot of respect for Rod Holcomb, probably because I've heard Noah talk so highly of him... and this picture wins him lots of coolness points in my book.

Yes, I just saw that. Great that ER got a final nod. Well done Rod Holcomb. Pity Noah didn't get anything, though, considering how boring and uninspiring some of the other Emmy awards were

I'm so desperate for news that I'm killing time watching little bits of "and in the end... " ( I still didn't re-watch it fully... ) and just watched the final scene, with Carter handing the ball to a janitor. This is a so random gesture, and yet so emphasized on, that it has to mean something, right? Is the janitor played by someone important behind the scenes, who there got his split second of glory? Is the name on his tag (which I can't read...) important? All I can imagine is that the ball is actually for Rachel. The scene is cut from Carter giving the ball to the janitor to a close-up on Rachel... And since Mark gave Carter the ball with saying him "you set the tone..." (I have to check that scene though, I can't remember exactly if there was a ball involved or not ), it's the symbol here of Carter passing the ball to Rachel... Makes any sense? Also, totally random, I checked our comments in this thread, and checked pictures of behind the scenes of the finale filming that Raffy posted. And I found something a bit strange ... There are more than one interviews by people having worked with Noah (Gabrielle Anwar, Nicholas Brendon on Lobster Alice, Anthony Edwards... ) mentioning how he always knew his scripts far before anyone else on set, had an incredible memory and didn't need any script anymore while everybody else was still reading it... and look at those pictures while shooting the finale: What's wrong here? Did he suddenly lose his memory? Didn't he care so much about the finale and didn't do his homework? Or... and maybe that can be a clue at the disappointing script... was the script ready the night before shooting only and he was given it 5 minutes before shooting? ETA: more random comments/questions : doesn't the guy in the back of the second picture, right above Noah's right shoulder, look like the janitor-ball guy? And I was always a bit curious about how long the intubation tubes were that they are using as props for the actors to get in their mouth... and it's to see attached on the 'ballon' there in front of Noah. Question answered! ;D

And sorry about double posting... I was just thinking of the DVD set of season 15 while writing about it here, so went to check around a bit to see if there were any comments about the bonus/extras/featurettes... and found that page on Amazon.com of people complaining the box set doesn't include any featurette (while it's advertised for on the package)! WTF??? Amazon has now withdrawn s15 from its site. Apparently it's not only DVDs purchased on Amazon, and they are now waiting for an answer from Warner... Congrats Warner! What a great way to end DVD seasons...

So after rewatching the finale (and maybe three, four or five other episodes while I'm in the business of not studying for my test, but who's counting?) I couldn't help but wonder: in the scene at the end, when the ambulances are coming in and the sirens are blazin', and Carter's deep in thought... what do you think his "deja-vu" was? I'm guessing it was a callback to the season 1 episode where they had a similar scene, but in the context of the show, I can't imagine that that one time would stick with Carter for 15 years, especially since there must have been plenty of those moments over the years. It wasn't as if that particular trauma in season 1 had been a burn trauma... was it? I know, it's completely random. It's still better than discussing the lack of ending...

Hmmm... I tend to think that he meant that as a general thought, not about a specific scene, and that it was meant not only as just Carter thinking that it's the sort of scenes he already saw many many times, but as a sentence talking about the show itself . Just a way by the writers of saying "we know we did that a lot, it's déjà vu, and that's how we end it... " Like Borgnine's character saying "that's it?", or the title of the last episodes... it was all direct references to the show itself... I imagine Carter's "déjà vu" was the same... ETA: Btw, I sort of understand Carter and Benton in the post-op scene in 15.19 as something like that too when Carter says:" You're still here?" and Benton answers: "I didn't want to miss all the fun...". Even though Benton could answer something like that, using a 'joke' instead of admitting that he was worried about Carter and prefered to stay by his side and not leave him alone, it's still a "weird" answer in my head (what's "fun" about watching Carter waking up in pain?), and I really imagine this little part of the dialogue is Carter directly talking to the audience, telling us "you're still here?" and Benton is a part of the audience, and the faithful audience will be rewarded with the 'fun' of it all: of seeing back old characters, of getting old references...

Oh yeah! I noticed that... "lights up" and "overjoyed" is the perfect choice of words for it! ;D Maybe what's been missing all in all in Carter coming back in the last season is something that resumed better who he is... And in my head, what defined him from day one was a real talent to talk to patients, the fact that he is a doctor who spends time for his patients, who's there for them... he is good at it, really good... (nobody defined Carter better than Carter himself... ) And in s15, there's not really any interaction with patients or family of patients... To the husband of the woman who's bleeding out after giving birth, he just says quickly that he can use a phone, and let him stand there in the pool of blood... That quite bothered me. That's not typical Carter... Maybe all could have been more emotional and felt more into place if he was just given the opportunity to actually talk to a patient, show back what he is good at...
