Thanks Anna! ;D The more we talk about them, the more I'm in love with those african episodes... It was just so good, and Noah was so good in them! I don't know if it was because I was quite unspoiled at the time, but I remember being really flabbergasted by the intensity of Kisangani and The Lost, and having the feeling, after seeing them for the first time, that I had just watched very very good movies... And though I loved that we got to see Carter again after The Lost, I always thought that the ending, with Carter having 'found' himself, leaving in the sunset with a really nice music, would have been the perfect exit for Carter...

Thanks people! I'm joining in on the Africa episodes love... I was probably too young to appreciate them when they first aired, and watching them now, they still captivate me and bring out a whole spectrum of emotions. Which for me is the mark of a great episode. and it doesn't hurt, of course, that Noah is amazing in them. I think Goran Visnjic is exceptional in "The Lost", too. Such a powerful arc.
While I love the general idea of leaving Carter in his "happy place"- ironically enough, surrounded by death and war and poverty he finds new meaning in life- I have to admit I don't like that last scene. it's a little too kitschy for me. "I was lost and now I'm found"...? as true as we know that sentiment to be, it just doesn't sound like something anyone would say. Like a line out of fanfiction. And driving off into the sunset is a little too literal, you know?
and still anything is better than the ending we did get...

Yeah, it's 100% kitsch, but I still find it amazing that it 'works' for me... The script looks indeed like a fanfiction, but Noah made it plausible. The way Carter seems amused at his own choice of words for the "lost and found" really redeems the script. And the sunset, okay... very cliché, but I just love the music (I think I had read somewhere at a point that Youssou N'Dour had written little original pieces for these episodes, but never really found out if it was true... It sounds like him though, and nothing I know from any of his albums...)

I think we'd see a mention of that somewhere it it were true... I searched everywhere for details on the sountrack to this episode. Not much luck. I DID find out, however, that there was a Dixie Chicks song playing in the bar where Eric and his girlfriend went dancing back when Carter and Abby were still dating. "Long Time Gone" at the end of "One Can Only Hope". You think that might explain his aversion to the Dixie Chicks?

I am, I am. I'm just... uh.... taking a very very very prolonged break right now. Aaaaand I made the icons late last night, not instead of studying, don't worry. Seriously though, all this studying can't be good for my brain! it's gotten to the point where I look at anatomical drawings of parts of the brain I'm supposed to memorize and all I can see is funny faces.
