I just started watching and I'm usually not coming here before I'm done, but first, I really love it so far! (not your usual episode at all, and I find that the narrative really works... ;D) and second, I just spotted Sara Wells (first row in the class room
;D ).
ETA: Done with watching!
It could actually be my favorite episode so far... ;D
Maybe not all of it though. I found the part in Charleston kinda bothering in the middle of Tom's "simulacrum" and journey.
But the writers probably didn't want to make a full episode around Tom and with a quite dramatic tone. I already saw some review complaining this episode was too slow and too dramatic
.
I found the flash-"sideways" really well done, as it gave just the right amount of background to know what was Tom's life before, with the right amount of "twist" to know we are not watching a simple flashback.
With Anne being brought as Tom's affair in this alternate reality, you can sense Tom's guilt to have started a new life with Anne.
And I realize that, while this season has been my favorite so far, I didn't have yet a moment where I felt really emotional. Got that moment big time now in the end! Last scene brought big tears to my eyes.
Finally, I loved this episode because it gave a sense of being "complete" as far as the big storyline of Falling Skies goes. Last scene with Tom in Boston, with the grid tower in the far, just as we saw it in the very first episode in season 1, really gave me that nice sense of completion.
I just found it very nice to be back in Boston, and to see Tom again as a fragile mourning guy. And to realize how things have changed: we know now what the grid is for, and the threat is even higher than in season 1. And Tom knows he can do something about it.
There's a little something bugging me though:
The "negative" thing about all these scenes with Rebecca is that the relationship is immediately believable and works very well! Rebecca as she is portrayed there is just perfect for Tom, and you can sense in the last scene how much he misses her. So that the relationship now with Anne feels a bit flat... Maybe because we haven't seen Anne in a bit. Or maybe it's just me... I know I'm not always convinced (far from it) by Moon's acting...
Maybe it has to do with that.
At this point, Anne and Alexis could be dead, as Karen wanted Tom to believe (he didn't look so sad, did he?), and I wouldn't care so much
.
