Just seen the finale. ;D I can report no hugs in the first part, but episode 10 has mega hugs that is two ordinary long hugs , one hug which is a threesome and a steamy (ish) kiss. For those of you who don't want spoilers , I'll leave you to guess between whom.
Epi 9 was very "talky" , I was a bit fed up with the Weaver stuff, but epi 10 was better. Lots of action , lots of soulful and determined and scared and all sorts of other emtions for Noah and lots more Noah, and some genuinely scary and puzzling plot. A faster pace helped.
The last scenes seemed like a direct steal to me. Anyone who has ever seen "Close Encounters" and who hasn't? will recognise where this is from, or is this on purpose? Is this a homage to Spielberg? What do people think?

I liked both episodes. Sure, there were things that didn't seem always so consistent, but I didn't care so much . I didn't spot any obvious useless explanations that were annoying me in some former episodes. I even saw a bit of subtlety here and there. I actually liked the quite slow pace of "Mutiny", and I let myself get carried by the plots in the finale. I didn't expect that sort of finale scene at all, and it let me intrigued and quite fascinated... There was some good material for Noah to shine with, and he DID shine ;D. A point letting me a bit frustrated is that Tom is too much of a perfect hero. I thought Noah had said at that Tom would be borderline breaking down at a point, but we didn't see that, did we? He seems always able to stay optimistic, and always making the "right" choices. I want this guy to show some weaknesses, to be more human somehow. I have no idea how they can start a new season after that last scene, which is both worrying and exciting . Either they have the big budget to show Tom's point of view, or I could imagine at least a first episode without him at all And now we have a full year to think about it...

I've enjoyed the season despite some of the stupidity. The only thing that I was a bit weirded out about was the Skinny alien coming to "talk" to Tom. So these aliens destroy the whole world and all it's leaders and Presidents and Prime Ministers -- (they apparently even tried to nuke the alien ships) -- but they want to talk to Tom Mason of all people!! What the hell?

And fortunately there is a second season with an end like this one ... very intriguing What bothers me is that he still has to show us that children become skitters, I don't subscribe to this idea Too many speeches! and history courses, two in the same episode ... I think they do a lot of wink to Spielberg, I read that the alien looked like at others in his other films ... At the end, aliens have respect for humans! This is interesting Otherwise pretty final! I found this caricature funny and successful except the comment We must erase this. I don't think Tom is this spirit, unless ... PS: The comment says "it's me, I must be the leader" Uploaded with ImageShack.us

So these aliens destroy the whole world and all it's leaders and Presidents and Prime Ministers -- (they apparently even tried to nuke the alien ships) -- but they want to talk to Tom Mason of all people!! What the hell? They've already said they weren't expecting such strong resistance - they're clearly used to quick, easy takeovers. They wouldn't have seen a need for negotiation early in the invasion because they presumed that their job would be done in a short time. But cut to six months later and they're still entrenched in battle. The presidents/PM's have been wiped out and via intel from a human in the process of converting into a skitter, they have identified a member of the enemy race who exhibits superior mental qualities to the others. This person also has a lot at stake, with a son becoming a skitter himself. Perhaps they chose to speak to him because they recognised him as a person of high authority (rather than Weaver whose authority wavered and weakened) who could reason, negotiate and influence. Or: Tom Mason was chosen over all others for he is The Hero of the series.

Or: Tom Mason was chosen over all others for he is The Hero of the series. LOL! that could be the main reason indeed... Or all you said above, making strong sense too. We also shouldn't forget that this is only one spot in the world. We know there are ships under construction over all major cities in US. We've been shown Boston only, and here in Boston, the 2nd Mass seems to be all that's left of the resistance. Not so many people to talk to around... There's one possibility I'm worried about though. At a point Ann mentions that the pills Weaver's been taking can cause paranoia and hallucinations. He says he doesn't take them anymore, but who knows? The very last shot of the finale is on Weaver watching Tom going away. It would be a very easy way out for the writers to start back the season with saying that all this "Tom boarding the aliens ship" is nothing but a hallucination. And I would find that very lame...

Except we see the hand of Weaver shake, so it is a crisis of lack, I think they show us that Weaver had stopped the pills ... I don't hope that the writers will make a final scene a hallucination

Thanks Raffy for all those, mostly positive, reviews and the funny one. Interesting to get all these different opinions. A lot of comment on the "Close Encounters" references which I also made. I suppose it was obvious really.
Like many of those in these articles, I'm still not sure where Tom going with the aliens will lead and if it's a good move. However, like all of the commentators and summarisers, despite many plot holes, I still think series 2 will be well worth following. Well, of course, we will anyway because of Noah, but it is interesting to see that those who aren't especially Noah fans all acknowledge that the series has flaws, but all say it is well worth following . Also, whatever else has been crticised Noah's performance has got a universal thumb's up

The show has its flaws. I'm not going to list what I don't like about the show because I think there was plenty of reviews and articles that explained deeply what didn't work. Maybe I should point out that I don't agree with all the criticism, but I don't think it's necessary because sincerely I want just to enjoy the show and good or bad reviews aren't going to change my mind I liked it and there's a good chance I'm going to love it if they're going to improve something here and something there next season. But I don't expect "perfection". And sincerely I don't need it. Said that....
I love the Mason Family. Even with the load of hugs. Casting choices were perfect. Noah, Drew, Connor and Maxim have also load of "family" chemistry.
Moon Bloodgood is not just pretty. I really like her character. And I hope we'll see more of her in season 2.
Main characters are not clichè. Just archetype. I think Pope is the most unoriginal character. But he's funny and I really like Colin Cunningham.
Falling Skies confession: I like Jimmy.
It's not Lost. And it's a good thing because I don't want to spend 4 or 5 seasons wondering what's going on. I like the uncomplicated formula: we got misteries to solve - while some misteries were solved we got new misteries to solve....
I also love they didn't force any love story. But Noah and Moon shine.
And finally I didn't have a single problem with Noah's character kicking alien' asses. Thumbs up for Noah, that's for sure ;D

I have a confession to make: I only just watched the finale. I've had the episode sitting on my computer for weeks now and I couldn't' find the time to watch it, which is ridiculous since I've been procrastinating like crazy (got lots of projects to finish). I guess I just wasn't in the right mood to watch the show, I dunno. Anyway, I thought the finale was nice. It definitely left me with a taste for me. I think this episode had the perfect amount of Noah and action and Noah action (and the rocket launcher scene? Oh man, he looked more 'alive' there than he has in the entire show. Like a little kid playing with fireworks!)... That last scene was completely unexpected and I really have no idea where they're going with it. I doubt they'd go the 'it was all a hallucination' way, based mostly on a hunch (and on something Noah said in an interview, about the season finale setting a pretty clear story arc for the first couple of episodes of season 2). That review is hilarious, Raffy. I'm laughing my a$$ off here. ;D The pictures are brilliant. Some of the comments made me actually laugh out loud. Actually, she doesn't seem to MIND it, does she.
