Off-topic! How do you hide the writing? I know, I'm bad!

No prob... In the row of icons above the smilies (that one that starts with the 'youtube' icon) the very last icon should be a red S. Clicking on it will insert a spoiler tag into the message that looks like this- [ spoiler ] and anything you write here will be hidden [ /spoiler ]

What's so wrong with this scene (besides the stupid music.... ? Ok, it's really sentimental, but not more sentimental than other scenes we have already seen. But some people really seemed almost "outraged" by it.....those reactions sounded to me as wrong as the ones of people who judge other people because they're atheist. Two faces of the same intollerance. Probably Tom & Co. are more believers than sceptics, but all the other people who were around them were just eating....so I don't think the scene was so unrealistic.

I wasn't "outraged " by the scene and I certainly think people are entitled to have different beliefs ( or non beliefs) which should be respected . I think showing different beliefs and how they fare in extreme circumstances could be fascinating. It could certainly be a good theme to persue here. I don't know if they will do this, or not, or how subtely.Let's just wait and see.
My problem with this scene was that it was really, really sentimental . It's probably the Brit in me, but I find such types of religious dispaly a bit embarrasing. As I said before, it's probably a cultural thing, but Lourdes does get on my nerves and the "last supper" motif did seem a bit obvious. That said, I agree some of the other characters were just eating, so I may be reading too much into it.
I liked most of this epi , so I don't want the discussion about the last scene to distract from that.

Maybe I should have pointed out I wasn't talk about people who post here.....My wrong. And I wasn't talking about you, Jeanette . But I read on other boards things like..."I'm blashemer and an atheist and this scene was crap. I give up with the show" and I want just complain about that. And I agree! Like I said I also found that scene really sentimental.

That was one of my least favorite scenes in the episode, but I'm willing to accept that it's at least 70% my fault, not the show's fault. I'm definitely one of those people who were deeply scarred by religious fanatics (try living in Israel and you'll see why I'm so much against religious themes). Like Janet, I don't look kindly on public displays of religion. But it wasn't my main issue with the scene. While I don't mind tackling issues like "how does one maintain their faith under these circumstances", I just think they approached it in a kind of 'flat' way, and that it deserves a much more in-depth look than the quick resolution they gave it: "Let's all say grace and be thankful and have a perfect blissful moment, and everyone will feel better... because the RIGHT way to handle any situation is to have faith and say a prayer..." I don't know, I guess I'm a little too cynical or too traumatized by what religion has done in my country, but I don't buy that. It wasn't the religious aspect itself that bothered me as much as it was the way it was written kind of shallowly. I don't know how to explain it better. But I definitely wouldn't want to piss you off, Raffy. And there were parts of the scene that I did like- Weaver saying the prayer under his breath, for example, was a nice touch. I didn't think the scene was total CRAP, mind you, just that it was a bit too 'sticky'. Like the scene with the ripstick that went on for too long, this just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not calling the show crap and I'm not quitting on it, either.

All this talk about future episodes is killing me!
I refuse to watch any video's posted anywhere as I want to watch them first hand in each episode as we recieve them in the UK.
I agree with you Darksparrow that went on for too long in episode one

They would improve the approach about religion, imo, if it weren't carried by only one character, whose purpose seems to be exclusively "be the religious person of the show" Even with only 4 episodes so far, we started to see several layers of the main characters. Lourdes is still totally unidimensional. Well... maybe she'll be one character who evolves later, or more brutally... She cannot remain like that, can she?
