Yikes, I don't speak French and even I could tell his French is horrible. That's when you know you're doing really bad, lol... And while we're on the topic of butchering languages, "Jahuda" (or Yehuda as it's SUPPOSED to be pronounced) isn't Hebrew for Judson, it's Hebrew for Judas. Look at me watching a movie about a librarian saving the world from vampires and complaining about the Hebrew not being right. He really did. He's all-around amazing in this movie. He hits almost every scene perfectly and he has that comic timing thing just right. I think it's something he's always had, but he's definitely got better over the years. Sort of like wine. Mmmmm.

I don't mind the bad accents and dodgy language in the Librarian because it's a fun franchise. It isn't meant to be realistic and it's part of the whole fantasy and joke.
Noah's bad French in ER also made total sense. Americans are not known for their linguistic skills!!! and he was so endearing in his mistakes.
What I always objected to was the fact that Kem was supposed to be half french, or at least raised in France and they made Thandie Newton speak French where it is obviious that she is English and anyone (like me) who knows French well could hear that she has an English accent and doesn't sound French at all. They should either have used a real French , or Francophone actress, or made her character half English. Since it was a more serious programme than the charming Librarian hokum I think they should be more respectful of the non American fans and get these things more accurate.

That's true, Jeanette. What can I say... the writers of ER have made some very questionable choices in the past.
On a different note altogether, does anyone happen to know if there are any screencaps from The Librarian available anywhere? Because I am DYING to make some icons, and my computer takes really lousy screencaps.

Since it was a more serious programme than the charming Librarian hokum I think they should be more respectful of the non American fans and get these things more accurate. I seem to remember that in "Makemba", when Carter asks her where she is from, because he can't quite say from her accent, she answers "I grew up in London mostly... my mother is French". I had the first impression that she was raised mainly in UK, but maybe I just got that impression from her accent. I would need to re-watch. And then they tended to make her more and more French, like she's staying in Paris almost all the time. I never really quite understood that. She went back to Africa even while pregnant because she said her work was important. At the end of "Carter est amoureux", I thought that Carter and Kem would move back to Congo together, that Carter would work at the HIV clinic with her, but they made it sound like he mainly worked in Darfur while she stayed in Paris...

I think you may be right about them saying originally that Kem was raised at least partly in England, but in the last epi "Old Times" this week Carter does explain to Benton that she was raised in France, so I think they just got their story confused, for a change.
Also Kem says the prayer over her son's ashes in French. Why would she do that, if her first language was English? It was that prayer which always annoyed me, since it wasn't anything I've ever heard as a French prayer and her accent was very English. As for the rest .. Well, who knows what happened afterwards in Africa?
Back on topic, I'm glad you loved the latest Librarian, Anna. I think it's my favourite one. What a contrast with the latest ER. Noah is so versatlile.

Yay, thanks Raffy! all I'm managing to get with BSplayer are very crappy screenshots and it's frustrating. Yikes, that is annoying. I don't see why they had to make the character French if the actress clearly isn't. It makes no sense. But a lot of the Carter/Kem storyline makes no sense. It's probably my least favorite of Carter's story arcs, I never liked Kem and as much as I want Carter to have a happy ending, I just don't like the way her character was written. So excuse me if I don't really want to think about it much.

Coming back to the Librarian 3, I just love the way Flynn says "Un baiser" when talking about 'sealed with a kiss' to find the key to open a chest. And I must admit I have a HUGE thing for Noah wearing glasses. Noah saying "un baiser" while wearing glasses is such a treat for me ;D!

Oh, don't even get me started on the glasses. *swooning smiley* I'm trying to act like a mature person and not a teenage fangirl and admire the movie in an adult way, and it's d**n near impossible when he's wearing a tuxedo, or wearing glasses, or speaking French. All three of those things in one movie, well, it's just too much. They sure know how to please the fangirls. What is it about this guy that makes me feel 16 again? ;D it's just the way he makes smart look sexy, if you know what I mean. I'm finally getting somewhere in my quest for screencaps. I've managed to get some decent ones, but it takes forever to get every screencap and I'm too impatient. So I'm making icons... what do you think guys, can I post them in the forum?
