Oh yes, I remember that scene. it's a really short one. Noah's character and Drew's character are having lunch at the teacher's lounge, and I think Noah is grading some papers (maybe the soap essay Donnie was writing earlier?), and then he goes "Donnie Darko..." And Drew says "I know...!" As in... he's so weird. something like that. I wish I had the DVD here... but I'm working on downloading it so I'll get that video posted ASAP.

Nothing very interesting, but I noticed that on the "production diary" on the Donnie Darko dvd (director's cut) there are some glimpses of behind-the-scene Noah... thought I'd share. There might be more, but I don't have time to watch the whole thing, this is all I could pick up on fast-forwarding... And now back to physics/statistics.

! I find it really interesting! ;D (Things with Noah that I hadn't seen before always are!) Is that Noah's voice at 0:45, saying something (I don't get) sounding like "lambees" to which everybody laughs? Sounds really like him . I like his "excellent!" too when told that they are both released for the day at 0:56 and the funny way he gets up from the chair... Funny to see how the last scene was shot too (I can't hear "Mad World" without seeing Noah in that scene... ). It looks so intimate and warm in the movie, and here they are, in that big cold empty room with a bed in the middle... I can't help but imagining it as something really weird, being in bed with someone, in the middle of the day probably, in a big empty room with many many people around and a big camera over your head... And it's not even a hot scene there at all .

It definitely is. That was cute. and I know I saw that jacket somewhere, I'm trying to figure out where... or does he have more than one jacket with those elbow patches...? Also, I was on the imdb page for Donnie Darko and saw this-

He had one at the Mandela Day event not long ago, dark blue with beige patches... Lol!!! I'm all for actors creating their characters' background to give them some depth, but how does 'diabetic' achieve that? No idea Probably someone spent too much time on a medical show... Though the way he eats the candy is cute...

Well, maybe it means that he's doomed. If you think about it (way more than is probably healthy), fear is such a strong motive in this movie, and Noah's character is sort of on the borderline between wanting to do the right thing (giving Donnie the book, seeing the craziness of the whole Jim Cunningham love fest) and being afraid (because he could lose his job). Maybe the diabetes thing is about overcoming the fear of death or something. probably. I'm not sure I really believe it anyway. and it's not like it's a recurring character trait thing, I think it's just the one scene in the classroom. I'll have to watch the film with the commentaries, maybe they'll mention something. *is just looking for excuses to rewatch the movie* it really shocked me how young Richard Kelly looks- I was like "who's that teenager in glasses wandering around giving people instructions?"

I'll have to watch the film with the commentaries, maybe they'll mention something. Now that you mention it, the diabetic thing didn't sound completely all new to me, and I listened to the commentaries long ago, and now I feel like that it could be that I heard that ... I need to check too ;D I'm really pretty sure there was something interesting said about that candy... *thanks for the excuse to rewatch it ;D!!!* ETA: Just found that on this forum: "They were dating. The website has the character's obituary (he was diabetic and died in 1991), and they later on got married and had 2 kids." I have to go check if there's still a website up somewhere! And you were right Anna!!! He was so doomed ! All about fear, yeah... And on that forum, they mention a book, and actually, it might be where I read that. I didn't buy the book but checked it in a bookshop... ETA2: Thank god for Google books. Here's the extract of the book I remembered:

Oh yeah, this movie is just getting more awesome by the minute. Thanks for that research job, Claire! I didn't know they killed him off... though now that you mention it, there's probably a mention of it in the official site. creepy. it sheds a different light on that "mad world" bed sequence, where it looks like he wants to wake up Karen to say something but then doesn't. I LOVE how every little detail in this movie comes together. LOL @ the characterization of Monnitoff... government, pot and video games. random, but I love it. He's like every science teacher I've ever had--- and I'm surrounded by scientists in uni... ETA: found the orbituary. Can't link to it- it's a fake page, it's the best I can do: Interestingly enough he died in a hit and run...

Awesome find Anna! ;D That movie has so much more going on than just the movie itself... No wonder it became quite 'cult'. And with the little I saw this evening on forums, there's really a large community of people analyzing it, and having theories were Pr. Monnitoff has a really more significant role than what's just shown in the movie. *coughs* Hmmm... be careful with what you say about science teachers ...

Some more digging around the donnie darko site brought up this--- "a place where THEY can never find it"? Government conspiracy thing? he DID work for the CIA... So what do you think, Monitoff's death = not an accident?
