The Librarian’s next adventure: your movie theaterYesterday Deb had a little one-on-one interview with Dean Devlin, producer of TNT’s new hit, Leverage, as well as the trilogy of The Librarian TV movies (the third one aired early last month). She’ll have that interview up sometime later (small preview: Christian Kane’s hair is discussed in length — pun intended). One question that came up was about where The Librarian series is headed; given its success, will it ever transcend to the big screen? “We’re in the process right now of writing the script,” Devlin told Deb in the interview. “Were hoping some time later this year to start shooting the first Librarian feature movie.” Maybe Noah Wyle didn’t make such a bad move after all. With the so-so reception the last Indiana Jones movie got (aliens and swinging through trees with monkeys — I mean, come on!), it’s possible that something like this might be a welcome “replacement” for it. Then again, have you seen the National Treasure series? Yikes. “We’re a little more family friendly than the Indiana Jones franchise,” Devlin continued, “but it’s a good time to let this character flourish.” Resident CliqueClack Librarian expert, Rich Keller, had this to say about the series: “For an action-adventure television series it was good. Cheesy but good. Everyone involved looked to be having a good time filming the series. The third installment was probably the best of them all.” I’ve yet to check any of the Librarian movies out, but the fact that a feature movie is in the works will make me think twice about passing up at least one of the movies, should it make a repeat showing on TV. I’d love to hear your opinion on the movies if you’ve seen them — let loose in the comments below. www.cliqueclack.com/tv/2009/01/08/the-librarians-next-adventure-your-movie-theater/

I forgot that I opened a thread about it.... The Librarian TV Movies to Move to TheatersDoes anyone out there watch The Librarian series with Noah Wylie on TNT? They're my guilty little pleasure. The first Librarian TV movie appeared in 2004 and was called "Quest for the Spear". The second was in 2006 and was called "Return to King Solomon's Mine" and the final one (or so we thought) aired in 2008 and was called "Curse of the Judas Chalice". My favorite was the second one, but I always like sitting down to watch the others whenever they air. The series stars Wyle as Flynn Carsen, a pretty square guy who's hired by the Metropolitan Library as a librarian. He soon learns that the library is actually in the habit of collecting and preserving historical and magical artifacts, including Excalibur and Pandora's Box (sort of like a more kid-friendly Indiana Jones). Some other big names star, including Olympia Dukakis as Flynn's mother, and Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart as Library employees. In each movie Flynn is tasked with retrieving an artifact, including the Spear of Destiny. While most of us thought that the series was over with the third TV movie, producer Dean Devlin has recently announced that a forth Librarian movie will be released in theaters. No word yet on the date, but since shooting will be occurring this year, chances are it'll be released sometime in 2010. www.usposttoday.com/the-librarian-tv-movies-to-move-to-theaters/

Ooops ... I had completely forgotten about that too... Maybe we were too much into ER at the time ... I was thinking that theater or TV release seen from here doesn't change a thing (it probably won't make it to theaters around my place anyway... : . Just maybe less easy to get it right when it's out, and really having to wait for the DVD *coughs*... Maybe a good point still is better special effects (and instead of running for Emmys... they can try Academy Awards... ) .

Let's hope they have a bigger budget for a feature movie.

On the one hand I'm excited because a feature film should mean bigger budget and perhaps better exposure (I'm thinking posters/ads... and wouldn't I KILL for a chance to steal one of those posters...) but on the other hand, Claire's absolutely right--- chances are it won't make it to theaters across the world, which would only mean it'll be harder to get our hands on. Plus, it's a hundred times harder to create a successful feature film than a TV movie, because the expectations are so different... so a film that could work really well on TV could fail miserably in the box office, and that would be a real shame. I'm also curious why they would suddenly go to the big screen with this. Sure, the Librarian movies are very successful as TV movies, but from what everyone's always said, I thought they considered them "TNT's project". If I were TNT, I'd be reluctant to give that up. so now I'm thinking that it might actually be better for them to keep it in the TV movie format... Ok, so now back to careful optimism. I'm really happy that we're getting a forth movie.

Some experts from old interviews
IM: Any chance that there will be more installments of “The Librarian,” despite the byline on the poster that this is the final one?
Wyle: An executive at TNT who is also a big supporter of the franchise has assured me that they’re still actively interested in trying to partner up on subsequent visions. As for my own taste, I would love to make ten of these. They’re so much fun to do. My son is so close to being of the age now where he can watch them and think his father’s far more heroic than he really is, and I can’t think of anything better!

6. Will you keep making these movies every year?
I hope so. I think even two years apart is a little long to wait when you're trying to build momentum of viewership; 18 months sounds more right to me. And whether we continue to make them on TNT, or try and launch a feature off of it, or if we end up someplace else -- I couldn't tell you. But I really don't want to say goodbye to the character or the movies. I'm really having more fun doing these than just about anything else I've ever done.
____________________________________________________
Though the movie's original tagline -- "The world's most unlikely hero is back for his final adventure" -- was enough to break my colleague Alynda Wheat's heart, Wyle assures us that Flynn will live to outwit, outsmart, and outspit-take another day, if fans want him to. "When I read that tagline, I was as surprised as everybody else," Wyle says. "And when I made my queries about it, I was told that this is a way of generating viewership and certainly not indicative of anybody wanting to see the franchise come to a close. In some fashion, whether on TNT or not -- maybe on the big screen, maybe on a different channel -- we'll make more of these, assuming that the audience is there for this one. I think that will be the deciding factor across the board."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iF: There seems to be a bigger picture developing with THE LIBRARIAN storyline – one that Dean has said will pay off in a feature film. Have you talked about what the feature film would be? Can you talk in some detail about it, if you can?
SCHNABEL: We’ve had some early discussions about it. If you watch the last two LIBRARIAN movies, you can see we’ve been setting up for a much bigger story and mythology -- one that will reveal bigger mysteries of the Library and test Flynn to even greater lengths. I know I certainly have a whole story in my head. But as to giving you any details about what that story could be, I wouldn’t want to spoil it. You’ll just have to wait and see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Producer Dean Devlin hopes the series will continue. Original comic books are being published, and there is talk of a feature film. Hopefully, that will happen. This trilogy could be a foundation on which to build something durable. The trick would be to expand on its originality and depth of character, while allowing what is derivative to become simple decoration. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indy says to Belloq, "All I want is the girl," we see a changed Indy. In Star Wars, Han Solo goes from saying, "I’m in it for the money" to "May the Force be with you." Recreating the magic of early ‘80’s fantasy adventure, when it was really good, requires more than stealing the fun. The talents are certainly here, but what of the ambition? (Stephen Jared)

OK, Devlin talked about Leverage on a Blog Radio. Around minute 26.30 he talks about the Librarian and Noah and he says than they're trying to do a feature movie with Noah. My english sucks so if you want to be sure about it LISTEN IT! www.blogtalkradio.com/NDBMediaETA: Someone asked if we're going to see Noah on Laverage. Devlin says that he hopes so but that Noah has just finished to shoot a pilot produced by Spielberg which is going to be on TNT (WHEN? ?) and so he would like to see a crossover

Thanks for the interview Raffy! ;D and for spotting out when they are talking about the Librarian. I just love how Dean Devlin talks about Noah! ;D "Noah Wyle is simply the best. He is one of the best humans I've ever met, one of the best actors I've ever met, he is the best partner you can have when you make a show, and he really is a partner, he is not just an actor... He produces this with me and he is involved in every step on the way,...you just can't have more fun than when you work with Noah Wyle." Otherwise, what Devlin says about the Librarian "4" seems still just an idea and nothing precise at all, and I think when he speaks about a crossover for Noah between 'untitled...' and Leverage, it's just a joke. Well, I don't really know Leverage, but for what the storyline seems to be, I don't see how that could cross with an alien invasion ... Raffy, I love your new avi! ;D 'good pep talk'

for that interview! If we can't hear Noah, at least we get to hear ABOUT Noah... and I'll never get tired of hearing Noah praised. So it's coming to TNT, the untitled project. Cool! Looks like they've officially "adopted" Noah! ;D

I would love to see Noah on a giant screen!! I think I'd have to watch the movie a couple of times, because I'm probably gonna be distracted from the storyline most of the time, haha! On the one hand I'm excited because a feature film should mean bigger budget and perhaps better exposure (I'm thinking posters/ads... and wouldn't I KILL for a chance to steal one of those posters...) Me too! I would definitely camp out at the busstaion, waiting for the guy to come to chance the poster, so I can take the one with Noah! Haha, that would be fun!
